Beaumaris Castle
Beaumaris, along with a number of other impregnable castles, was built by King Edward I in order to secure his conquest of Wales. The grand vision for this symmetrical, state-of-the-art structure was not realised however, when in 1298 construction work was stopped due to lack of funds. What we see today may not be what was originally planned, but it is imposing and beautiful never-the-less.
