Beauty of Britain

Buildwas Abbey is located close to the banks of the River Severn, near Ironbridge, Shropshire. Dating from the 12th century, this was once a sizeable Cistercian Abbey and home to monks who had travelled to England from Normandy.

The remains of this great building, complete with its wonderful Norman columns, are now maintained by English Heritage.
