COUNTRYSIDE
Road to Beeston Castle, mid Winter
This was photographed on a rare snowy day in Cheshire. The icy road leads to Beeston Castle. Dating from 1225, it was constructed in an ideal defensive location, on a rocky crag some 500 feet above the surrounding countryside. The castle was preceded on the site by a Bronze Age settlement and an Iron Age hillfort.
